For example, my heart rate right now is 60 beats/min (after making and eating a toasted peanut butter sandwich with sliced banana and a cup of coffee with sugar and milk). My age adjusted maximum heart rate is 226 - (age) = 199. That means that after my glorious sprint on Monday (148 beats/min), I was only working at 74% of my max! Granted I didn't take my heart rate right after the run (I was bent over trying to breathe), but it also means I can work harder. But I knew that already. :)
